Located in one of Fairfield’s most exclusive riverside enclaves is an understated yet architecturally impressive mid-century modern-inspired home.

Eight years ago, though, when the vendors Peter and Rose first saw 60A Park Crescent, it looked very different.

“The original house on this block was a ’60s cream brick house that had been rented out for years and was very neglected,” says Rose.

“I walked in and walked straight out, and thought there was no way I would buy this place. My husband saw something different. He saw the potential.”

And with this potential in mind, the couple bought the house in 2018, undertaking some minor renovations so they could move in and “plan their next step”, which ultimately happened to be a complete knockdown and rebuild.

Located in one of Fairfield’s most exclusive riverside enclaves is an impressive mid-century modern-inspired home.

The property has undertaken some minor renovations.

The home ultimately had a complete knockdown and rebuild.

This stage was executed by what Rose describes as their “dream team” – architect Fiona Poon (of po-co architecture) and builder Joel McKerlie (of McKerlie Builders).

“They listened to all our ideas and made the home come to life,” she says.

“Fiona was able to embrace the natural light from a north-facing rear and was able to bring light into every room.”

In addition to the natural light, the interiors feature a restrained palette of Australian timbers and finishes, a decision Rose says was to blend in with the surroundings.

“When it came to the design of the home, we wanted something that would be sympathetic to the area,” she says.

“We have Fairfield Park at the end of the street, so we wanted to keep it very natural. We chose a white brick that is featured both externally and internally. Out the front, we went for a native Australian theme to blend in with the area. People are always stopping by and commenting on it.”

A resort-style space with a solar-heated mineral pool is a focal point.

The property is scheduled to be auctioned on March 21.

The three-bedroom home on a 860sq m block has a $4.2m to $4.4m price guide.

Inside, features like extensive storage, a Japanese-style toilet in the ensuite, and a Billi hot water system that supplies boiling, chilled, and sparkling water are favourites among the vendors.

Outdoors, a resort-style space with a solar-heated mineral pool and an automated cover is a focal point.

“The heated pool is used daily. At night, you can change the colour of the lights in the pool to suit your mood or theme,” says Rose.

“Outside, we also have an Escea built-in fireplace, which is also a BBQ, and we have also bought an attachment that transforms it into a pizza oven. We use it all the time.”

60A Park Crescent, Fairfield, is scheduled to be auctioned on March 21, through Nelson Alexander, Northcote.
